San Jose, Calif. — San Jose State University alumni Jim Carter (’89) and Jane Carter (’89) have made a generous six figure commitment to support the new Football Operations Building planned for the east side of CEFCU Stadium, Home of the Spartans. The couple met as students at San Jose State in 1986 and have been married for 30 years.
“We believe rebuilding the east side of this historic stadium will fundamentally and structurally change Spartan Athletics forever”, said Jim Carter. “This re-build will send a powerful message that Spartan Football is moving forward with pace and purpose. Our football alumni are a critical piece of our future success, and I hope this sends a message to Spartans everywhere.”
Jim Carter was a football student-athlete at SJSU from 1985 to 1987 and made First-Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention All-American as an offensive guard. During Jim’s junior and senior years the Spartans produced a 20-4 record with back-to-back bowl appearances.
Upon graduating from SJSU in 1989, Jim worked for Sun Microsystems while completing his MBA. Jim currently co-owns a private equity real estate investment company; is the Acting President of a start-up company, HomeSmiles; and continues to broker real estate. Jim has also authored two books, A Guide to MAKING IT in Real Estate, and, a novel called, The Rip-Off.
Head Football Coach Brent Brennan added, “The Carter family always shows up for San Jose State, and I cannot thank them enough for their steadfast support. I am thankful that Jim and other football alumni recognize the impact this facility will make. It will provide the tools that we need in order to succeed in the Mountain West Conference. Again, thank you to Jim and Jane for standing up and making a difference.”
During college, Jane was a member of the Spartan Spectrum Dance Team and is a former 49ers Cheerleader and NBA Golden State Warriors Dancer. She and Jim started Dance Academy USA in 1990 and the school is currently the largest of its kind in California. In 2014, the Dance Teacher Magazine Board awarded Jane, the 2014 Dance Teacher of the Year.
The couple reside in Los Altos and have three adult daughters; Jessie, Jamie, and Jodie.
The Football Operations Building will be located on the East Side of CEFCU Stadium and provide a home for the football program with team amenities such as a new locker room, auditorium, football student-athlete lounge, and more. This critical project will make a major impact on the Spartan Football Program, serving to elevate SJSU as one of the premier institutions of higher learning and competitive Division I football in the Mountain West Conference.
As part of this generous commitment the Carter family will establish their name on an Assistant Coaches Office in the new facility.
